Reflection on the Organized Webinar Title: “Scene Synergy: How to Balance Interactions between 2D Characters & Environmental Art.”
The webinar we organized was titled "Scene Synergy: How to Balance Interactions between 2D Characters and Environmental Art." It took place on November 22, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and was hosted by my team, the Skyrocket Collective. Initially, we planned to conduct the webinar via Zoom. However, we found it challenging to use and realized that we would need a pro version to fully utilize its features for a formal event like this. Ultimately, we decided to revert to our usual platform, Google Meet.
We prepared thoroughly, with our team leader, Ms. Hershelle Hannah Agasa, serving as the host, and our resource speaker, Ms. Alyssa Beatrice Dela Cruz, who is a 2D animator at Top Draw Animation. The main focus of the event was to demonstrate how 2D characters can effectively fit into and interact with their environment.
I benefited from my experience in both roles—participant and organizer. As a participant, I found the webinar exciting, especially since there are not many free webinars on this topic. Opportunities to learn about animation are rare, and when they do occur, they often come at a cost. Therefore, this was a fantastic chance to deepen my understanding of animation.
Ms. Alyssa Beatrice was an excellent instructor who taught us how to synchronize characters with their environments. She emphasized the importance of weight, timing, perspective, and character interaction with objects in the surroundings. Ms. Beatrice showcased her work and shared her experiences, illustrating her points by referencing popular cartoon series. She highlighted instances where backgrounds were incorrectly placed due to poor perspective.
While these lessons may seem simple, they can actually be quite challenging. It's not just about placing a background behind a character; the styles of both the character and the background should complement each other, and their perspectives need to align. When these elements combine harmoniously, they create a more natural viewing experience.
As one of the event organizers, I had to remain alert for any questions or issues that arose among our audience. We enforced a strict schedule to ensure that everything was presented as promised, with each team member assigned specific roles and responsibilities. In my case, I was in charge of managing the participants' e-certificates.
Handling events like this is essential, and I've realized how challenging and exhausting it can be. However, having an engaging topic, a supportive team, and relaxing music in the background can significantly enhance the experience of hosting webinars in the future.
Regarding the topic itself, I believe it can help me improve my animation skills. I learned key concepts for better balancing my characters with their environments. Ms. Alyssa stressed how perspectives, weight, timing, and object interactions greatly influence how characters interact with their surroundings.
I believe we performed well in our first webinar. The energy and engagement from everyone during the meeting were commendable. Many audience members expressed their appreciation for Ms. Alyssa's animated works, and she was able to explain and demonstrate the topic clearly. Overall, the meeting was a success, and the team did an excellent job of creating a welcoming environment for all participants.
It's crucial to have all preparations in place well before the event. We only conducted a dry run on the day of the event, which wasn’t ideal. I believe it’s better to prepare in advance so that we can manage the flow of the event effectively rather than waiting until just before it starts.
