The seminar I attended was titled “Youth and Cybercrime: Awareness and Prevention.” This webinar aimed to help us understand the law, protect our rights, and shape a responsible generation in today's digital world, where many individuals are vulnerable to cyber threats. The seminar was facilitated by the GABAY Seminar Series from Gordon College and took place on September 30, 2025, at the Gordon College Function Hall, featuring PSSG Princess Rowie D. Garcia as the guest speaker.

The seminar was incredibly informative. The speaker introduced us to relevant laws, their scope, and our rights while offering valuable tips for handling similar situations in the future. Ma’am Princess Rowie Garcia explained the laws and our rights clearly and shared many of her experiences dealing with this type of crime.

She emphasized how clients often fall victim to cybercrime, revealing a critical issue: individuals sharing too much personal information online, which makes them easier targets. It was disheartening to learn that some people exploit these vulnerabilities for fun, money, and personal gain.

Additionally, it is unfortunate that many young individuals are already aware of these actions but cannot be punished due to their age, which complicates the situation. Hearing the stories of these victims was heartbreaking, especially since many remain unaware of the technology involved, the protective laws, their rights, and the proper ways to report such crimes.

Many victims feel easily intimidated and are susceptible to scams, leading to panic and poor decision-making. Filing a complaint can be a lengthy process that requires adequate evidence to support a case. I sincerely hope they receive the justice they deserve and find peace in their lives. The judgmental nature of society can take a significant toll on an individual.

Understanding our laws and rights is crucial, as it encourages us to be more cautious in our social lives. Hearing the victims' stories was very touching. Even if they received justice, the damage was already done, and many others are likely suffering from issues such as exposure, scams, hacking, stalking, and more.

One of our main challenges is the lack of awareness regarding digital tools, laws, and our rights. Gaining this knowledge would empower us to counter these attacks and potentially prevent more victims. Unfortunately, this issue isn't discussed enough, and even when it is, many people find the information dull or too complex.

I hope we can find better ways to communicate cyber prevention strategies to everyone. Additionally, I wish more people would take the time to listen and use this information wisely. Although I don’t think the seminar lacked value, I believe we need to improve how we present this critical subject to make it more accessible.

I must admit that I struggle to remember all the laws and rights discussed, as the information can feel overwhelming. However, I'm glad I attended the seminar because it heightened my awareness of what we post online. I can also share this knowledge with my family, especially the elders.

I highly recommend hosting similar seminars. The detailed explanations and engaging storytelling had a significant impact. The seminar served as a wake-up call for attendees, emphasizing the importance of being aware of the digital world and cautious about what they share online, as many cybercriminals may be lurking around. Overall, the seminar was educational, and I wish more similar events could be organized to reach a broader audience, particularly older adults.
